Eco Village Tour

DISCOVER THE TRADITIONAL LOCAL LIFE

This half day tour takes you into a cultural trip to discover traditional activities and meet local people. Take a traditional becak or a scooter and go through the wonderful rice fields. Have a look at the everyday village life and stop by to observe traditional homemade production of tofu and brown sugar. Learn more about traditional crafting such as atap roof thatching made with palm leaves and bamboo walls (tepas). On Friday & Sunday you can also visit traditional markets! Feel free to ask questions to your guide to learn everything about the village life. At the end of the tour enjoy a fresh drink or a freshly harvested coconut water!

TOUR ITINERARY

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at your guesthouse around 9:00 am and take you to your transport : becak (traditional taxi) or motorbike. 

 

You will go out of Bukit Lawang to discover traditional small villages in the countryside. On the way you will have the chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery of ricefields with the Gunung Leuser National Park on the background. Ask your driver to stop if you want to observe how local people are growing rice in the ricefields. 

This cultural experience enables you to take part in the local village everyday life as you will visit traditional production of tofu and brown sugar. You can also enjoy a small walk around the village to see how local people live and work. Pass rice fields, rubber and cocoa plantations and enjoy the green scenery. You will also will discover some traditional crafting activities made by women in the village. You'll watch the process of making atap roof thatching, a traditional dwelling made with palm leaves. Then enjoy a demonstration of Tepas making, traditional woven bamboo wall used to make Indonesian kampung houses (village houses). You can be sure to enjoy an authentic traditional Indonesian experience! 

A fresh drink (freshly harvested coconut water or another drink) will be offered to you. 

On Friday and Sunday you will also be able to visit the big local markets and discover mountains of chillis, ginger,

turmeric, cinnamon, cloves, tofu but also several colorful fruits and vegetables! Take the time to buy some unknow fresh fruits (dragon fruit, snake fruit, rambutan, langsat...) from local producers. 

If you want to stop somewhere in the way back to Bukit Lawang to take lunch, just ask your guide. But please note that lunch is not included in the tour price. 

 

Your guide will take you back to your guesthouse around 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm. If you'd like to have an authentic lunch (not included) in the village, feel free to ask! Your guide will recommend you some places and take you there before bringing you back to your guesthouse.
