Around 3:30 take part of the eco-friendly elephant washing activity operated by CRU/LPT Tangkahan. Lembaga Pariwisata Tangkahan (LPT) is a local organization formed with the purpose to develop eco-tourism as a new form of lively hood and in this way prevent illegal logging. As regards the CRU (Conservation Response Unit), it is a team of Sumatran Elephants saved from illegal poaching and their mahouts that helps safeguard the national park to protect it from encroachment. By joining the elephants in their bathing ritual you will support this local initiative. We are aware that elephant activity is under worldwide criticism but we are only supporting this unique ecotourism activity in Tangkahan as it supports the elephants, the local villagers but also prevents the rainforest from illegal poaching and encroachment.
The Sumatran Elephants love their bath ritual (twice a day at 10:30 am and 03:30 pm) and will enjoy even more if you wash and brush them! Taking a bath with them and playing around with the babies is definitely an unforgettable experience! After bathing, feed them with bananas to reward them after their working day through the jungle.
On the way back to Bukit Lawang, you will cross undeveloped areas so take the time to observe the everyday life in rural villages.
End of the day, your guide will bring you back to your guesthouse around 6:00 or 7:00 pm.
